Which staircase to choose for the house

The page has been viewed 145 times

Stairs perform not only a functional role but are an essential element of home design. Each staircase sets its own rhythm and bend, whether it is a straight, spiral, or spiral staircase. Since it is not easy and expensive to build a staircase, it is best to find a manufacturer that offers a wide range of staircase parts, so you can pick up pieces to make it easier for builders to assemble the stairs. Ready-to-assemble staircases are inexpensive, but it’s more difficult for them to give personality and fit your project. In any case, you can use straight, circular, or spiral staircases. They can be narrow or wide. Most often, the width of the step is 100 cm. The stairs can be steep or gentle. Stairs are made of various materials, often combining metal and wood or wood and stone.

Spiral staircases

Spiral staircases are often bought ready-made. They are economical both in price and in the use of space. They are great when an attic is rebuilt under the attic or make additional rooms in the basement.
Spiral staircases are made of steel, aluminum, hardwood, and a combination of all of the above. Many companies make both ladders, but some specialize in one. Usually, you need to choose a form and then pick up the handrails, steps, etc.
Hardwood staircases can also be made using metal. They are made of mahogany, beech, oak, cherry, and other wood species. They are often finished with different materials, from chrome steel to plastic coated in different colors of aluminum. The steps can be made of smooth steel, wood, plastic or plywood, for subsequent carpet finish.
You can choose the direction of the spiral when ordering stairs. You can also specify the required diameter. The diameter of the spiral staircase should be between 120 and 200 cm.
The first thing to decide is to choose a prefabricated ladder or solid. A prefabricated staircase can be cheaper and easier to transport, but a solid staircase is more durable. It is also easier to install and less weight. It’s also easier to pick up details such as handrails.
So you ask, why then choose the prefab ladder? It is much cheaper and easier to deliver. Their price starts at $ 400 for steel stairs with a small diameter, while a solid steel staircase will cost $ 500. An aluminum staircase price will start from $ 1,500 and all wooden or combined from $ 2,000-5,000 and more.

Straight stairs

Some companies make them in sections, ready to be connected to the site or to the floor. The cost of straight stairs is from 1000 to 2000 $, but additional details can be much more expensive.

Circular staircase

Stairs of this type are usually designed individually for expensive homes. You can buy them, both ready-made and for an individual order. Any circular staircase is weighty, and special lifting mechanisms are needed to lift the parts of the stairs for assembly.
Prices range from $ 10,000 for a standard-width staircase made of wood to ten times more expensive for special orders. It is tough to use standard sizes because the floor height must be precisely calculated, and the house must be built precisely according to the dimensions of the stairs. Builders prefer to customize the stairs to fit the house, and not vice versa. The average price of a staircase to order is about $ 25,000.

DIY staircase

If you want to significantly save on stairs, choose the type of stairs to build yourself. This can be a straight single-flight staircase or a staircase with a platform, or a staircase with cross-country steps.

Instructions: you can calculate a straight staircase and make one yourself if you read Larry Hawn's book, The Very Efficient Carpenter.
